ABOUT US
Our Misson
Surbiton Royal British Legion Youth Marching Band is a non-profit organization established in 1965 to provide young people aged 8-21 with exceptional musical training and development.
All tuition, instruments, and uniforms are provided by the band, ensuring that financial barriers never prevent talented young musicians from pursuing their passion.
We operate along the same lines as H.M. Forces, instilling discipline, confidence, and musical excellence in our members.

Our History
The band was originally established as a "Boys Band" with just 12 members. With support from the Royal Borough of Kingston Youth Service and a loan from Surbiton British Legion, instruments were purchased and uniforms were provided.
Our first public performance was at the Remembrance Day parade in 1965. In 2000, we made a significant change by welcoming girls into the band, breaking with tradition and embracing inclusivity.
Today, we continue to grow and inspire young musicians from diverse backgrounds to achieve excellence.
The King's Award for Voluntary Service
The Band is proud to be a recipient of the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest honour given to volunteer groups in the UK.
This prestigious award recognises the outstanding commitment, dedication and positive impact of our volunteers, who give their time to support young people, community events and charitable causes.
It reflects the hard work of everyone involved with the Band and highlights the important role our organisation plays within the local community.
